Berck/Rang-du-Fliers

Local basketball in the Pas-de-Calais has run through the "Derby des opposés" against AS Loon-Plage for years, along with a separate rivalry against Boulogne-sur-Mer.

The club started out in 1929 as Association Sportive de Berck, founded by Abbé Vandewalle, and only became Berck Basket Club in 1975 before settling on its present identity, Avenir Basket Berck Rang-du-Fliers - Côte d'Opale Sud. Under coach Jean Galle, who ran the team from 1967 to 1976, Berck won the French Federal Championship in 1968 and then the French National Championship in both 1973 and 1974, reaching the semi-finals of the FIBA European Champions Cup in each of those two years and finishing third both times. The American Ken Gardner was named the competition's best foreign player in 1973, part of a squad that also carried Jan Racz and Bob Cheeks.

That run ended abruptly. In 1974, players went on strike over unpaid bonuses, and the dispute cost the club its leading names and its place at the top of French basketball. The Coupe de France UFOLEP from 1968 and a Nationale 3 title in 2011 sit in the record books alongside that era.

The years since have been a matter of climbing back through the divisions rather than chasing trophies: promotion to Nationale 1 in 2015, relegation to Nationale 2 the following year, and a return to Nationale 1 in 2022. Raphaël Pascual took over the bench in 2025, succeeding Laurent Kleefstra, who had coached the club since 2018. ABBR now plays out of the Palais des Sports de Berck.
