Cavalier SC

Leighton Duncan put his own name on the team he started in Mountain View, and for a short while the side played as Duncan Destroyers. The name did not last. By the time the club had settled into the Cavalier it still carries, the founding date — 1 August 1962 — was already behind it.

The first trophies came quickly: an FA Cup in 1964, two years after the club existed at all, then two more in the 1970s. A league title followed in 1980/81. Then the line barely moved for a generation. Relegation in 1995 took Cavalier out of the top flight and kept them there for seventeen years; promotion in 2012 returned a club that most of a footballing generation in Kingston had never seen play at that level.

What followed compressed a lot into a few seasons. Cavalier won the Jamaica Premier League in 2020/21, then again in 2023/24 and 2024/25 — back-to-back titles that made the 2012 return look less like a restoration than a beginning. In between came the CONCACAF Caribbean Cup of 2023, decided in a final played the following year, which took the club beyond the island for the first honour of its kind.

Home is Stadium East, which holds 3,000 — small enough that the Kingston derbies against Harbour View, Arnett Gardens and Tivoli Gardens are heard as much as watched.

The white shirts and black shorts have not changed. Neither has the address: the club still belongs to the district where a man with an idea about a football team started one, and named it after himself before thinking better of it.
