Dachau

ASV Volleys reached the top of German volleyball twice in a row, taking the national championship in 1995 and 1996 under the Romanian coach Stelian Moculescu. A year later they added the DVV Cup, and in between the two titles they went further than any Dachau team has gone since, losing the 1996 CEV Champions League final 1:3 to Modena at the Final Four in Bologna.

The volleyball department grew out of the wider ASV Dachau club, founded in 1908, and turned to the sport itself in the autumn of 1973.

Matches are played at the Georg-Scherer-Halle, in front of a crowd capped at around 700, blue and white still the club's colours from the years of the championship team. Against SV Lohhof the fixture carries the weight of a proper local derby, sharpened by the closeness of the two towns.

The club has leaned on its own academy to rebuild, handing first-team places to graduates such as Patrick Rupprecht rather than buying its way back up. That approach paid off in 2022/2023, when Dachau won the 2. Bundesliga Süd and returned to the 1. Bundesliga for 2023/2024, with the American Matt Slivinski wearing the captain's armband as the side tries to hold its place among the country's best again.
