L.E. Volleys

Volleyball in Leipzig needed somewhere to go after VC Leipzig collapsed into insolvency, and in 2009 what came out of that gap was meant to last only as long as it took to keep the youth academy and recreational sides on their feet. It grew into something else. L.E. Volleys took shape as an independent club, and the initials still point back to that inheritance: Leipzig Energie, a nod to the city and to the old club's identity, even though the new one owes it nothing on paper.

The men's side reached the top of the 2. Bundesliga Süd in 2014, having finished runners-up twice before that, and turned down the promotion it earned. The women's team has made a habit of the same choice: Regionalliga Ost titles in 2015 and 2017 both went unclaimed a level up, and when the 3. Liga Ost was won in 2024, steady results were repeatedly left at the door.

Matches against GSVE Delitzsch on the men's side and against Neuseenland-Volleys Markkleeberg for the women carry the label of a Leipzig derby, played out in front of just over a thousand people at the Brüderhalle.

Through the club's move from stopgap to established side, one name has stayed constant on court: setter Martin Burgartz, with the team since 2014.
