«The Birds»
The Eagles moved there in 2003, and it has been the address ever since for a franchise that traces back to July 1933, when Bert Bell and Lud Wray bought the rights to a defunct Philadelphia team called the Frankford Yellow Jackets and started over.
The lean years lasted longer than the good ones for most of the club's existence. Three NFL titles came early, in 1948, 1949 and 1960, and then nothing followed for eighteen straight seasons — no playoffs at all between 1961 and 1979. Dick Vermeil broke that run, taking Philadelphia to the NFC Championship in 1980 and on to Super Bowl XV. Nick Sirianni added a second Super Bowl in the 2024 season, beating Kansas City with Jalen Hurts named the game's MVP.
Reggie White and Chuck Bednarik anchor the club's Hall of Fame roll, but it is the 1943 season that gets told and retold in Philadelphia: with rosters gutted by the war, the Eagles merged with the Pittsburgh Steelers for one year to field a single team known as the Steagles. The Cowboys, Giants and Commanders remain the standing rivalries, sharpened every year by the NFC East schedule.
