Lioli

Lioli grew from the town itself: a club built for the place, entered into the record by RSSSF under 1934 (the district's other early side, Matlama, having formed two years before, over in Maseru). By 1958 the club was already good enough to take the Basutoland Football Cup, the Sturrock Cup, before independence had even arrived.

What followed was a run few clubs in Lesotho can match. Lioli have taken the league title seven times, most recently in 2024 and again in 2025, and added five Lesotho Cups along the way, in 1984, 2007, 2010, 2014 and 2016. The nickname Tse Nala, "The Blacks", comes straight from the red-and-black colours the club has carried through most of that history.

Continental football has been less forgiving. Lioli have gone out to the likes of Vital'É of Bujumbura on away goals, and were beaten 7-0 on aggregate by Orlando Pirates in the 2025-26 CAF Champions League preliminary round.

Hlompho Kalake, capped more than sixty times for Lesotho, played his club football in Lioli's midfield, and Bob Mafoso moved from the playing staff into the technical director's role before taking charge of the national team.
