James O'Connor took the job in 2015. Three seasons later he had turned Louisville City FC into the first team in USL history to defend its championship, beating Swope Park Rangers 1-0 in the 2017 final and Phoenix Rising FC by the same score in 2018.

John Hackworth took over the team he left and reached another final in 2019, losing 1-3 to Real Monarchs SLC. Danny Cruz, who had played for the club, has coached it since 2021.

Louisville plays in purple, at Lynn Family Stadium — 11,700 seats plus standing areas for a capacity of 15,304 — and answers to LouCity, or Los Morados, as often as to its full name. Two fixtures carry more weight than the rest of the schedule: the Dirty River Derby against FC Cincinnati, both clubs sitting on opposite banks of the Ohio, and LIPAFC against Indy Eleven, a rivalry sharp enough that CBS has carried it.
