Its best finishes in II liiga came in the Ida/Põhi zone, third in 2015 and fourth the year before, but the club stayed an amateur outfit throughout, well below Meistriliiga level. Home matches were played at the Sepa tänava staadion in Tartu, a 1,000-capacity ground.

The 2015 campaign turned out to be the last under the Luunja name. In January 2016 the club merged with Tartu Tammeka and continued as that club's feeder side, Tammeka U21. No cup run and no spell in the second tier proper ever came before the merger closed the book on Luunja as an independent name.
