Kelly Olynyk close to joining Roma
Roma have reached a preliminary agreement with the 35-year-old Canadian centre, who could debut in the derby against Maxima Roma on 11 October.

Rome has two top-flight basketball clubs this season. Maxima Roma , known as La Maxima, arrived in June 2026, when the American lawyer and entrepreneur Paul Matiasic bought the sporting licence of Pallacanestro Brescia. The Italian Basketball Federation (FIP) approved moving it from Brescia to the capital, which put the new club into the 2026–27 Lega Basket Serie A and the EuroCup.
The home games are at the PalaEur, which seats 11,200, and the team plays in gold, black and white: white with gold accents at home, black away.
Matiasic is owner and Executive President, and has pledged €5 million over five years through the Maxima Roma Foundation. Off the court, the club turned to a football name. Francesco Totti joined as an advisor in September to work on fan base development.
Roma has not staged a top-flight basketball derby since the 1979–80 season.
