Mihai Silvășan spent 13 seasons on court for the club, from 2002 to 2015. A year later he was back on the bench as head coach, and he has held the job since 2016. The results since then are the best argument for the appointment: the Romanian league title in 2017, then five in a row from 2021 to 2025.

The gap before that run was long. After titles in 1992, 1993 and 1996, the next came in 2011. Gheorghe Mureșan played in Cluj in the late 1980s and early 1990s, before he left for the NBA. The team had separated from the multi-sport club CS Universitatea Cluj around 2001 and kept its place in the top tier. It has carried the name U-BT Cluj-Napoca since 2014, after its title sponsor, Banca Transilvania.

The Romanian Cup has come more often than the league. Seven wins include three in a row, from 2016 to 2018, and the most recent in 2026. Five Super Cups sit beside them.

In Europe the team has reached the EuroCup quarter-finals more than once and the Basketball Champions League quarter-finals in 2021–22. Since 2025–26 it has played in the ABA League, a step away from domestic play in which the same rivals no longer stand across the court. The old contest with CSM CSU Oradea, the Transylvania Derby, remains a fixture at home. Home games go to the BTarena, which holds 10,000 for basketball; the smaller Horia Demian Sports Hall, at 2,525, is also used.

Ten league titles, seven cups, five Super Cups: 22 trophies.
