Romanian Cup 2026/27

The Romanian Basketball Cup is the premier knockout competition in Romanian basketball, organized by the Romanian Basketball Federation (FRB). The men's tournament was founded in 1954, while the women's competition began in 1965. It sits below the Liga Națională in terms of prestige but operates independently, with no promotion or relegation links. The primary prize for the winner is a route to European qualification, specifically the FIBA Europe Cup.

The format has evolved significantly over time. Historically, the men's competition concluded with a Final Four. Since the 2020–2021 season, the men's tournament has expanded to a Final Eight format, featuring quarterfinals, semifinals, and a final in a single host city. The third-place match was discontinued in 2016. The women's competition retains a Final Four format.

In terms of historical dominance, the landscape has shifted. Dinamo București holds the record for the most titles in the competition's history with 22 wins, reflecting its mid-20th-century supremacy. However, in the modern era, U-BT Cluj-Napoca is the most successful club, having won 7 titles as of 2024/2025, including a dominant run from 2016 to 2024. Other notable winners include CS Dinamo București with 6 titles, CSA Steaua București with 2 titles, and CSO Voluntari with 3 titles.

The 2025 men's final was won by CSO Voluntari, who defeated CSM Oradea 93–83. In the women's competition, Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe has been the dominant force recently, winning multiple consecutive titles. The competition structure is distinct from the league, serving as a high-stakes knockout tournament that rewards peak performance in a condensed timeframe compared to the consistency required for the league title.
