BC Timisoara

In the 2015 Romanian Cup final, Bogdan Popescu put up 19 points to help the club to a trophy it had chased since losing three previous finals, in 2007, 2008 and 2012. That win, coming five years after the club's first Cup title in 2010, remains the clearest measure of what this side has actually built in Timișoara, a city where the team has changed its name almost as often as its ownership has changed hands: born in 1956 as Știința, it went through Politehnica, Elba and BCM Elba before settling, since 2017, on BC SCM Timișoara.

The domestic league title has been harder to reach. BC SCM Timișoara finished runners-up in the national championship in 2008–09 and again in 2011–12, losing both finals to CSU Asesoft Ploiești. The Cup has been the more forgiving competition, delivering the two titles that sit at the centre of the club's history.

Sala Constantin Jude, the club's hall, holds 2,200, modest even by Romanian standards, but it has been full for the matches that mattered most, including derbies against CSU Sibiu that carry the weight of local rivalry without a name attached to them, unlike the Cluj-Oradea fixture across the country. Among the players to come through the club, Zoran Milencovici stands out as an academy graduate who stayed long enough to become identified with the shirt itself, a rarer thing in a league where rosters turn over quickly.

Europe has offered the club its most recent high point. Playing as WS Mozzart Bet Timișoara in the 2023–24 Alpe Adria Cup, the side reached the final and lost 88–90 to MKS Dąbrowa Górnicza, a run that took the Lions of Banat further than any previous European campaign. The violet and white now carry that result into the new season as the benchmark to match, with the Romanian Cup, the competition where the club has actually delivered, still the nearer target.
