BTarena
Cluj-Napoca, Romania
Formerly: Polyvalent Hall
BTarena opened on 21 October 2014 in Cluj-Napoca, though some accounts place the doors opening four days later. It was built under the original name Polyvalent Hall before a sponsorship deal with Banca Transilvania took effect on 17 October 2017. The construction budget came to €21.5 million in 2019 values, followed by a separate €3.5 million investment for EuroBasket 2017.
The arena sits on Strada Uzinei Electrice. The interior features a modular wooden parquet floor manufactured by Connor, an American firm, which also supplied the surface for the FIBA Basketball World Cup and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The facility holds 10,000 spectators for basketball, handball, tennis, concerts, kickboxing, and MMA. The space is operated by the Cluj-Napoca City Council.
The site hosts a wide variety of events. Local tenants include the U-BT Cluj-Napoca basketball team and the Universitatea Cluj-Napoca women’s handball team. International fixtures range from Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup tennis matches to basketball and handball games. Concerts have brought acts such as James Blunt and André Rieu to the venue, while esports tournaments round out the calendar.
The venue does not serve as the home ground for CFR Cluj, which plays at Stadionul Dr. Constantin Rădulescu.
