U-BT Cluj-Napoca Women

Nobody in Cluj-Napoca plays this club for the derby, because there isn't one; the fixtures that matter cross the mountains to Oradea and down to Târgoviște, where CS Universitatea has spent decades trying to reclaim a place at the top of Romanian women's basketball. CSM CSU Oradea supplies the Transylvanian needle, while CSM Târgoviște has been the team standing in the way whenever a final was there to be won.

The club grew out of the university sport system in 1947 and turned into the standard against which every other women's side in Romania was measured, taking the national title fourteen times between 1953 and 1993. That run stopped cold at 1993, and it has never resumed.

Some of the names from those championship years still carry weight in the city: Virginia Popa collected eleven titles in the shirt, Aurora Dragoș ten, and Magdalena Pall-Jerebie during a career that ran into the 2000s. The current squad includes Tunde Kilin, capped by Hungary, playing under colours that gave the club its old nickname, Alb-Negrele — the White and Blacks.

Games are played at the Horia Demian Sports Hall, built in 1970 and renovated in 2010, holding 2,525 for basketball.
