Rapid București had gone 48 years without a national title before this year, and when the wait ended in the 2025–26 season it ended twice over: the league and the Romanian Cup, a double the club had not managed since 1969. Annemarie Gödri-Părău, who had joined the squad only in January 2025, was on the floor for both finals.

The gap tells its own story. Rapid's ten league championships cluster almost entirely in the two and a half decades after the Second World War, from 1951 through 1978, a run that made the white-and-burgundy shirt one of the sport's familiar sights in Romanian basketball before it went quiet for two generations of players.

The club traces back to 1934, when it was founded as CFR București under the railway workers' sporting banner, taking the Rapid name three years later — a lineage still audible in the nicknames supporters use, Feroviarele and Giuleștencele among them, tying the team to the Giulești district it has never left. Games are played at Sala Polivalentă „Rapid", a hall that seats 1,500, modest by the standards of the sport but full enough on the nights that matter.

Rapid now carries that revival into European competition, in the EuroCup Women, alongside the Liga Națională and the Cupa României at home — the same two trophies it had just spent half a century chasing.
