Fenerbahçe's women grew out of a 1954 collaboration with Çamlıca Girls' High School, arranged by Ayten Salih Berkalp, and the team took an early run of Turkish titles before financial trouble shut it down between 1968 and 1978.
What followed was a period few European clubs can match: eight straight Super League titles from 2006 to 2013, then a run of continued domestic success that carried into the 2020s. The EuroLeague was the one prize that took longer, arriving first in 2023 and again in 2024 and 2026 — seasons in which Fenerbahçe also took the league and the cup, completing what the club counts as a Triple Crown twice over.
That success has been built on recruiting WNBA talent to Istanbul rather than exporting Turkish players abroad: Diana Taurasi and Tina Charles have both worn the yellow and navy, alongside Turkish figures such as Birsel Vardarlı, whose number 7 hangs retired at the Metro Enerji Sports Hall. The arena holds only 2,500, modest against the club's continental standing, and has changed sponsor-driven names more than once — Öznur Kablo, Safiport, Alagöz Holding, Opet — before becoming Fenerbahçe Tarfin.
Fenerbahçe go into the new season defending a EuroLeague crown for the second year running, still measured most closely against Galatasaray at home and against the rest of Europe everywhere else.
