«Female Lions»
The colours were chosen in a fabric shop in Bahçekapı. The founders of Galatasaray Sports Club went in and came out with a dark sweet red, close to a cherry, and a rich yellow with traces of orange. The women's basketball team, formed in 1954, took the same yellow and red, and the nickname Female Lions ( Dişi Aslanlar ) is the club-wide Lions with a feminine ending.
Galatasaray Women won the Turkish Super League in 1988, then took it again in 1990, and the titles kept coming through the decade. The Kadınlar Basketbol Derbisi , the Women's Basketball Derby against Fenerbahçe, was played inside that run.
Işıl Alben captained the side for many of these years.
The 2013-14 season brought the EuroLeague Women title, the league championship and the Turkish Cup together. The team now plays in the Sinan Erdem Dome, which holds 16,000 for basketball. The players who came to Istanbul include Sylvia Fowles, Lindsay Whalen and Alba Torrens.
The EuroLeague has been won once, in 2014. The last league title in the club's record is from 2015.
