Gabriela Mărginean and Gabriela Irimia carried this club through the years when Târgoviște, not Arad or Cluj, was the address for a Liga Națională title. The club took its present name, CSM Târgoviște, only in 2011.
Between 1994–95 and 2014–15 the team won twelve national championships, and added nine Romanian Cup titles between 2002–03 and 2016–17. In 2010 it reached the Eurocup quarter-finals.
The derby with FCC UAV Arad once counted as the fiercest fixture in Romanian women's basketball. Home games are played in front of 2,000 at the Sala Polivalentă.
