MK Holon

It started at the Snaker school on the eve of Hanukkah in 1972, when Shaul Zalzer put together a team with Yossi Ben Yiftach, Raziel Ofer and Alon Shila among the founders, playing under the name Maccabi Kiryat Sharet Holon after the neighbourhood it came from. The name changed more than once after that — to H.C. Holon in 1999, then through a run of variations over the following two decades.

The club has never taken the national title, and its closest brush with a trophy came in the 2018/19 season, when it reached the Israeli State Cup final and lost a tight match to Maccabi Rishon LeZion. Relegated at the end of 2009/10, Holon bounced straight back the following season, then went down again in 2011/12 and returned in 2012/13 without losing a single game.

Its academy has sent players out to European leagues, and Daniel Musindi became the first to reach the continent's top tier when he signed for Erlangen in Germany's Bundesliga in 2019. Others followed to French second-division sides — Chen Liebgott to Villeurbanne, Yaniv Gorman to Chambéry. In Europe itself, Holon's best run came in the EHF Challenge Cup, where they reached the round of 32 in 2014/15.
