Concord University opened its doors in Athens, West Virginia, in 1872. The program has carried the Mountain Lions name ever since, playing now in NCAA Division II within the Mountain East Conference, in maroon and gray.
Thirteen conference titles sit in the program's history. Concord went 13-1 in 2014 and reached the Division II semifinals, winning its first-ever playoff game against West Chester before getting past Bloomsburg as well. The run ended against Minnesota State Mankato, but for a program that had never won a postseason game before, getting that deep was the achievement.
Charleston has featured among the Mountain Lions' more recent opponents. The team plays its home games at Callaghan Stadium, a 3,700-seat ground in Athens.
