Rayong FC

Rayong Province set up its own football club in 2009 through the local Provincial Administrative Organisation, entering the Thai Division 2 League's Central-East zone in the same year the paperwork was signed. That is worth stating plainly because the province already had a team playing under its name: PTT Rayong. Rayong FC grew from public rather than corporate money, and the two clubs never shared more than a home region.

The nickname stuck around anyway. "The Firepower" traces back to PTT's old sponsorship, a reference to fuel and energy that outlived the company's involvement, and it now belongs to a club with no corporate parent at all. Home games are played in navy blue and teal at the Rayong Province Stadium, also known as the WHA Rayong Stadium.

Promotion has come in bursts rather than in a steady climb. The 2015 Central-East Division 2 title opened the way to Thai League 2, and four years later a third-place league finish sent Rayong into the top flight for the first time. The stay lasted one season: bottom of the table in 2020–21, straight back down. Tiago Chulapa carried both promotion campaigns on his own scoring, with 19 goals in 2019 and 22 across all competitions in the 2023–24 season that took the club back into Thai League 1, this time via the away-goals rule against Ayutthaya United and Nakhon Si United in the play-offs.

The FA Cup has never gone Rayong's way beyond the third round, and the League Cup stalled at a semi-final in 2013. None of that carries the weight locals put on games against Chonburi FC, the fixture that anchors the Eastern Seaboard derby alongside Pattaya United's successor club.
