«The Green Castle»
The most recent silverware at Sagesse is the Lebanese Basketball Challenge Cup, won in 2025, a year after the club redrew its logo in September 2024. It is a long way from the years when the trophy cabinet in Ghazir was full.
The basketball side of Sagesse Beirut began in 1992, when the sports club, which dates from 1943, formed a team under the presidency of Antoine Choueiri. Lebanese basketball calls him its "Godfather", and the 5,000-seat hall in Ghazir is named after him. The team started in the second division and won the Lebanese Basketball Cup in its first season. It then won the top-flight title in 1993–94.
The years that made the club's name came later. That run brought the FIBA Asia Champions Cup in 1999 and 2000, plus two Arab Club Championships, in 1998 and 1999. Beirut's other big club, Al Riyadi, has always been the measure.
In 2002, 2004 and 2005 it took the West Asia Basketball Association (WABA) Champions Cup as well.
Since then the honours list has moved on only with the 2025 Challenge Cup, and the club has yet to win the league again.
