Stavropol built its women's basketball around the North-Caucasus Federal University. The club traces back to 1988, when it started life as "Spartak," built on the remains of a disbanded team from Yessentuki. What followed was a string of renamings — Stavropolchanka , then Stavropolchanka-SKA , then a run of names tied to SevKavGTU — and, eventually in 2013, gave the club its lasting identity: Stavropolchanka-SKFU.

The team never reached the Russian Premier League podium, but it spent years knocking on the door of the top flight. Promotion came in 2009, when the side won the Higher League's Group 1, and two seasons later it added the second-tier Higher League title in 2011. The following two campaigns brought fourth place in the Super League.

Evgeny Aliev has coached the side since 2005. Among the players who came through the system, Nadezhda Lebedeva stands out as a graduate of the club's own ranks.

In the summer of 2024, financial trouble pushed the club out of Stavropol altogether.
