Rostov-YUFU spent last season chasing another Superleague-1 title, the level where the club has made its name over the past decade, and the "Don Panthers" nickname still fits a side built to grind out results at KS Express rather than overwhelm anyone with size.

The club has worn three different names since Elena Shvaibovich, an Olympic champion, and coach Tatiana Troitskaya put it together in February 2006 — Rostov-Don, then Rostov-Don-YUFU, then Peresvet-YUFU, and now Rostov-YUFU. Each rebrand tracked a change of backer or university tie-in rather than a change of address; the team has stayed in Rostov-on-Don throughout.

Dmitry Fedoseev took over in 2017 and turned a mid-table Superleague-1 side into the league's regular winner, with the club topping the table in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 under his charge, on top of the title it had already taken in 2014. That run also produced the club's best continental finish, third place in the EWBL in 2019. Promotion followed in 2022, when the team won the Higher League outright.

The rivalry with Stavropolchanka-SKFU, played out as the Southern Derby, remains the fixture supporters mark on the calendar before anything else.

What the club has not managed, through all the name changes and Superleague-1 titles, is a season in Russia's top flight.
