Vologda Women

Two runs to the semi-finals of the FIBA Europe Cup, in 2011, 2012 and 2013, mark the club's best run on the European stage, but the trophy that still gets mentioned in Vologda is domestic: bronze in the Russian Championship of 2000–01. It came within a decade of the club's founding on 21 May 1995, when sisters Valentina Cherepanova and Tatyana Karamysheva put together a team first called Politekhnik, after the local polytechnic institute. The name settled into Vologda-Chevakata by 1997, with the nickname built from the founders' own names — Cherepanova, Valentina, Karamysheva, Tatyana.

Money, not results, did the damage in 2017: budget cuts sent the club down from the Premier League to the Superleague. They answered by winning that second tier outright in 2017–18 and going straight back up, then took silver in the top flight in 2022–23 — a longer route back than the drop itself had taken.

The Universal Sports and Concert Complex "Vologda" has been home since 2010, before which the team played at SKK Spektr; at 3,000 seats it is modest, but it has hosted a squad that has sent players through Olympic basketball, Maria Kalmykova and Irina Sokolovskas among them, alongside imports such as Emma Cannon and Brittney Jones.

There is no local derby to speak of — Vologda has no other club at this level — so the rivalry that matters is with UMMC Ekaterinburg, the league's dominant side for two decades.
