Zach Graham's name still comes up around Gimnasio Marcelino González when people talk about what Mineros de Zacatecas became after 2017, the year the state government bought the old franchise for 2.5 million pesos and put a new name on it. Before that it had been Barreteros, a club with its own record — a national title in 2001, the CIMEBA crown two years later — carried over when the team joined the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional in 2004 on the strength of a franchise bought from the defunct Dorados de Chihuahua. The mining reference in the new name was not decorative; it named what the state has dug out of the ground for centuries and handed the club an identity the previous ownership had not bothered to claim.

Under the Mineros badge the team has yet to reach an LNBP final, though it has come close, falling in the Final de Zona three times, in 2019-2020, 2020 and 2022. Pedro David "Pery" Meza is the name most associated with those runs. The silverware that has come has arrived elsewhere: a Copa Independencia in 2026, beaten out over Astros de Jalisco.

The rivalry that matters most locally is not with a big-market club but with Fresnillo, where Gambusinos and Plateros have both worn the colours of that town against Zacatecas City in what gets called the Clásico Zacatecano.
