Viimsi

In the 2021–22 Estonian-Latvian Basketball League, Viimsi beat BK Ventspils in the quarter-finals and Pärnu Sadam in the semi-finals, then met VEF Riga in the final. They lost 64–95. They had reached that stage in their first season in the top flight, the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML), where they finished fifth in the regular season and fourth in the playoffs.

The climb behind that run was short. Viimsi won the third tier, the II liiga, in 2016–17, then spent four seasons in the I liiga: seventh, third, second in a season the pandemic cancelled, and finally first in 2020–21. Valdo Lips coached the side from 2016 to 2021, left, and came back the same year.

The club began in 2002 with 25 children, and its founders, Tanel Einaste, Anti Kalle and Teet Tiisvelt, built it around youth teams. Einaste has been chief executive since the first season. For nearly a decade, from 2011 to 2018, the senior side played in the Viimsi school sports hall. It now plays at the 500-seat Forus Sports Center in Haabneeme, also known as Karulaugu.

Once in the KML, Viimsi stayed there. In 2022–23 they finished fourth in the regular season and reached the semi-finals. Karl-Johan Lips, the captain, was named to the KML All-Star Five that year. Devin Harris played for them in both of those first two seasons before joining Tartu Ülikool Kalev. In 2023–24 they ended fourth in the playoffs, and in 2024–25 they went out in the quarter-finals.

Their sharpest rivalries are with Tallinn clubs, chiefly Tallinna Kalev and TalTech, because they share a region and the same leagues. Rakvere Tarvas is the opponent they meet most often in the Estonian-Latvian League.
