The ground is enclosed, a fact that matters when the sun beats down on the strip, but its most striking feature is the exterior.

Construction was a massive undertaking, costing $1.9 billion, which makes the money trail difficult to ignore. The stadium opened in July 2020, but the surface story is complex. While the facility is built for the Las Vegas Raiders, who play on natural grass, the UNLV Rebels use an artificial turf. The surface is switched as needed for the different tenants, a logistical task that keeps the maintenance crew busy. The capacity for a standard NFL game is 65,000, but that number shrinks for international soccer matches to make room for advertising boards and broadcast platforms. For concerts, the space expands to nearly 72,000.

The stadium has hosted large-scale entertainment since its early days, including SummerSlam in 2021, which marked the first time fans were allowed inside during a live event. It has also seen heavyweight boxing, with the Canelo Álvarez fight drawing a significant audience. The structure itself was known by different names before the Allegiant deal was signed in 2019, first as Las Vegas Stadium and briefly as Raiders Stadium.
