«Raiders»
Under him the club went from a 1960 charter member of the American Football League to a team that reached five Super Bowls.
The first title came at the end of the 1976 season, when the Raiders beat the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl XI. Two more followed, after the 1980 and 1983 seasons. Before the merger with the NFL, they had already taken the AFL championship in 1967.
Jim Otto anchored the offensive line from the club's earliest seasons and became one of the names the Pro Football Hall of Fame later called on. Howie Long and Ted Hendricks did the same on defense, in years when the Raiders' reputation for physical, needling football was earned on the field rather than assumed.
The franchise itself never sat still: Oakland from 1960, a jump to Los Angeles in 1982, back to Oakland in 1995, and finally Las Vegas in 2020, where Allegiant Stadium became the new home. The rivalry with the Denver Broncos travelled with them through every move, unbroken by geography.
Mark Davis owns the club his father built; Klint Kubiak now coaches the roster from the sideline. Since the 1970 merger, the Raiders have taken the AFC West twelve times.
