Fryshuset Arena
Stockholm, Sweden
Fryshuset Arena is not a football stadium. It sits in the Hammarby Sjöstad district, and its purpose is defined by what happens inside it: basketball, concerts, and youth hockey. The venue is owned and operated by Fryshuset, a non-profit youth organization that was founded in 1984 in a converted cold storage facility.
The space is flexible. It is divided into three configurations. Lilla Arenan seats 1,400, Mellan Arenan 2,200, and Stora Arenan 3,500 for events. This is a facility that adjusts to what it is hosting. A basketball club founded in 1984 plays its home matches in the Swedish second-highest division here. Djurgårdens IF uses the arena for junior and youth ice hockey activities, though their senior men’s team plays at Hovet.
It is not a single-purpose ground. There is a skate park and an indoor sports hall. The capacity of 3,500 applies to the largest configuration, but the venue is not a football stadium and has no pitch. Hammarby IF’s training ground is Årsta IP, a different location with an artificial turf surface.
The building has a presence in the city. The address is Mårtensdalsgatan 2-8. The complex opened in 1984, though the specific opening year of the arena itself is not found in sources. The facility hosts concerts, basketball games, and MMA events. It is a place for sport and music, not for football.
