Courbevoie

Courbevoie have played in the third tier of French hockey since 2016, when major financial difficulties forced the club down to the division then called Division 3 and now called Division 2. The Coqs have no Ligue Magnus title or Coupe de France to their name, and the furthest they have gone in the cup is the last 64. The Paris suburb's derby is against Neuilly-sur-Marne and the Bisons.

The club was built for children first. When the municipal rink opened at the Centre Charras, the mayor's multisports association wanted a hockey section. Philippe Lacarrière, a former France captain, agreed to start one in 1972 on the condition that it concentrate on youth rather than professionalism. The nickname came from the acronym: COC sounded like "coq".

The senior side did reach the top flight, promoted in 1980 when the championships were restructured. In 1983–84 five players from the dissolved Français Volants/Meudon side arrived, among them the Olympic defenceman Bernard Cabanis. The following season Courbevoie finished second in the regular Division 1 campaign, behind Rouen, and third in the final group. That remains the club's high point. The players from that influx retired, and the senior team folded in 1987. It restarted in Division 3 in 1992–93 and did not get back to Division 2 until 2000–01.

The youth work kept going through those years, and Thierry Monier ran it. He took over the hockey academy and the coaching in 1973 and stayed 33 years, a French record for a coach, which earned him the nickname "the Guy Roux of French ice hockey". On 19 February 2005, during a home game against Caen, he was shot by a Russian youth coach who had failed a coaching exam that Monier had assessed. Monier survived and retired in 2006, and he died in 2007. The rink now carries his name, and in 2016 he was inducted into the French Ice Hockey Hall of Fame.
