Toulouse-Blagnac

Dominique Ducharme spent the 1996–97 season in Blagnac, long before he coached the Montreal Canadiens. Yanick Riendeau, in 2021–22, and Yannick Goïcoëchea, in 1998–99, came later on the same road. Benoît Pourtanel has been both player-coach and head coach.

Ducharme arrived at a club that was still young in its current form. Hockey in Toulouse dates from 1967 and the Toulouse Hockey Club, but the early years were unsettled. In 1971 the side became the Entente Font-Romeu-Toulouse, in 1973 it reverted to its old name, and in 1974 it was absorbed into the Stade Toulousain. The Toulouse-Blagnac Hockey Club of today dates from 1989, when the Patinoire Jacques-Raynaud opened in the suburb. The 1,200-seat building is still home. The Les Bélougas nickname followed in 1990.

The club has won the French Division 2 title twice, in 1998 and 2014. The second came in the same season as its best run in the Coupe de France, which ended in the round of 16. The club now plays in Division 2, the third tier.

The academy has supplied its own players. Maxime Faup went on to the French under-16 national team, and Clément Blaser and Thibaut Buils are among the more recent products. Petri Ylönen, the Finnish-French international goaltender, is also on the list of names associated with the club.

The fixture that draws the most attention is against the Montpellier Hockey Club. Matches between the two are called the Occitanie derby, and the rivalry came to the fore in the 2017–18 Division 2 play-offs.
