Poitiers Ducs

The Coupe de France of 1982 is the one national trophy in the cabinet of the Stade Poitevin hockey section, known as the Dragons. Its ice hockey section had been set up in 1969 and was admitted into the wider Stade Poitevin sports society in 1977, so the cup came only five years after that.

The name comes from the Grand'Goule, a creature out of Poitou folklore. The club plays in black, white and red on a rink of 810 seats, and the rink has shaped the team's path more than once. In 2012–13 the senior side merged with Niort Hockey Club to form Entente Niort-Poitiers, who played as the Grizzlis, because the Poitiers rink was being renovated. The arrangement lasted one more season, and the two clubs then separated. In both of those seasons the team won the Poitou-Charentes regional title.

The person most tied to the club is John Stinco, whose given name is Jean-Vital. He joined as a player in 1987, and the club retired his number 8. He coached the team from 1988 to 2018, and stayed on as sporting director until his death in 2019. His sons Jeffrey and Grégory also played for the senior side.

The recent seasons have been quieter. Poitiers went up to Division 2 for 2020–21 and came straight back down a year later. They were still in Division 3, the fourth tier of French hockey, in 2024–25. The club has never won that national Division 3 title, and no player from its ranks has gone on to Ligue Magnus.
