Fetisov Arena
Vladivostok, Russia
The building on ulitsa Makovskogo sits apart from the surrounding city. Inside, the space is dominated by the white rectangle of natural ice.
The arena carries the name of Vyacheslav Fetisov, though there was a brief moment when the Vladivostok Sea Trade Port held the rights to rename it. That change did not stick, and the original title remained. The capacity for the ice hockey matches is set at 5,915, a figure that has not shifted despite earlier discussions of adding a stand behind the goal to reach 7,000. When the ice goes up and the rink is cleared, the space transforms into something larger, stretching to hold eight thousand people for concerts or mixed martial arts events.
This is not a temple of football, nor does it have the history of a ground built a century ago.
