Portimonense secured a narrow 0-1 victory over Castro-Dairy in the Round of 128 of the Portuguese Cup on Saturday evening. The away side took the lead through D. Djassi's 34th-minute strike, and despite being reduced to ten men after G. Aguas was sent off in the 51st minute, held on for a deserved result.
The goal came from Djassi, who finished a move to give Portimonense the advantage. By then the hosts were already under pressure, and the red card for Aguas — shown a yellow and then a second card in the 51st minute — changed the complexion of the game. They paid for a sloppy opening, as Portimonense controlled much of the possession.
The statistics tell a story of dominance without conversion. Portimonense enjoyed 61 per cent of the ball and launched 98 attacks compared to 77 from the hosts. They took seven shots, two on target, while Castro-Dairy managed only one attempt on goal. The visitors scored from their limited chances, and that is all it took.
Castro-Dairy had 39 per cent possession and just one corner, while Portimonense claimed four. The hosts also finished with 12 free kicks and seven goal kicks, suggesting they spent time defending rather than building attacks. Their single shot on target was not enough to trouble the away goalkeeper.
The result extends Portimonense's recent struggles, having lost three and drawn one of their last five matches. Castro-Dairy's form has been more varied, with wins against Trancozu and losses to Anadia and Sertanense. For now, Portimonense advance with a point won, even if the performance was far from convincing.
