Kenya and Eritrea played out a 1-1 draw in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on 26 September 2026. Eritrea took the lead through Nahom Girmai in the 36th minute before Rambok Ryan Wesley Ogam levelled for the hosts 87 minutes in.

Kenya dominated possession at 68 per cent and registered 106 attacks, but their 24 shots yielded just one goal. Eritrea, with 32 per cent possession, managed 51 attacks and converted 12.5 per cent of their eight shots on target.

The visitors were second to everything in the first half but their efficiency told. Girmai's strike came after Kenya had wasted several opportunities inside the penalty area. The hosts responded with a wave of substitutions in the second half.

Kenya brought on Job Ochieng, Timothy Ouma and Manzur Okwaro in quick succession, while Eritrea introduced Tesfaldet Tekie and later a double change of Esrom Yohannes and Filimon Gerezgiher. Ronney Onyango and Micah Obiero came off for Kenya on 79 minutes.

Discipline held up throughout. Ronney Onyango, Victor Fors and Manzur Okwaro collected yellow cards. Neither side was reduced to ten men, and both goalkeepers made five saves.

The result leaves Kenya with a point from their opening qualifier. Eritrea, who had won their last two meetings with Eswatini, showed they could compete away from home despite the possession gap.
