About the player
Axel Holewiński joined Lechia Gdańsk in August 2026 without a competitive first-team appearance for Pogoń Szczecin. The reported fee was about €750,000, rising to more than €1.2 million with add-ons. Pogoń also kept a 35% sell-on clause. His contract in Gdańsk runs to 30 June 2030.
He came up through youth football in the Opoczno area, first at Lechia Tomaszów Mazowiecki and then at Ceramika Opoczno, before moving to Pogoń's academy in 2019. In July 2023 he was promoted to the senior squad. He sat on the bench ten times, one of them in a UEFA Europa Conference League qualifier against KAA Gent in August 2023, but did not play.
Game time came on loan at Polonia Bytom. In 2024/25 he made 32 appearances in the II Liga, and the club won promotion to the I Liga. He went back to Pogoń briefly, then returned to Bytom for 2025/26 and played 18 matches in the second tier.
Holewiński has also played for Poland at U17, U18, U19 and U20 level. The move to Lechia, where he takes the number 1 shirt, is the first time he has joined a club on a permanent contract as a senior professional.
