About the player
Baba Alhassan moved to FCSB in December 2023 for €600,000. Hermannstadt kept a 20% sell-on clause. The former Romania internationals Florin Răducioiu and Viorel Moldovan accused him of disrespecting his old club, and Alhassan answered that he had trained with the team.
Hermannstadt was where he built his name in Romania. He arrived as a free agent in October 2020, after starting out at the African Talent Football Academy and spending 2018–19 with Real Valladolid B in Spain. In 2021–22 the club finished as Liga II runners-up and won promotion to Liga I. In September 2022 Gazeta Sporturilor named him its Player of the Month.
He won the Liga I title in 2023–24 and again in 2024–25, along with the Supercupa României in 2024 and 2025. Injuries have interrupted his seasons, though. In November 2024, in a Europa League match against FC Midtjylland, he tore a muscle. Manager Mihai Stoica called it the team's most serious injury of the season, and it kept Alhassan out for about five weeks.
He was born in Accra but plays international football for Uganda, through his mother. He has won five caps for the Cranes without scoring and was in the squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
