About the player

When NK Domžale collapsed into bankruptcy in late 2025 and early 2026, Benjamin Markuš had to watch it happen from a distance. He had come through the Domžale academy after arriving from NK Olimpija Ljubljana, made his senior debut there in 2020 and racking up 111 league appearances and four goals before leaving on a free transfer to TSV Hartberg in July 2024. Speaking in March 2026, he called the club's collapse a shame. Domžale later received a payment of roughly €161,867 from the FIFA Clearing House, a statutory distribution tied to training compensation for players who passed through the club, Benjamin Šeško among them.

Coach Manfred Schmid has described him as one of the most underrated midfielders in the league. Interest from Hajduk Split surfaced early in 2026.
