About the player
Byron Burgering's route to Almere City ran through the lower divisions: youth spells at FC Delta Sports '95 and VV 't Goy preceded a first taste of senior football at FC Eindhoven, followed by a season at Sportlust '46 and then a move abroad to Miedź Legnica in Poland. He made no first-team appearances in the Ekstraklasa or the Polish Cup, though he did find the net regularly for the reserve side, scoring eight goals in seven matches in the third tier, before leaving in January 2022.
Burgering was instrumental in the club's promotion to the Tweede Divisie, scoring in the playoff final against SteDoCo, and was named top scorer of the Derde Divisie for his efforts. He again finished as his club's top scorer, this time in the Eerste Divisie.
The club rewarded him with a three-year contract carrying an option to extend to 2029.
