Joey Jacobs

Joey Jacobs came through Almere City's ranks. He started out at FC Purmerend before joining the AZ Alkmaar academy, and by October 2018 he was playing regularly for Jong AZ in the Eerste Divisie, going on to make 65 appearances for the reserve side over several seasons.

His move to Almere City in January 2022 was more than a routine free transfer, as it might first appear: Dutch outlet Omroep Flevoland reported that Almere City had to pay AZ a fee for him, since he was still under contract at the time. The amount was not disclosed. Once at Almere City, Jacobs quickly established himself as a regular in defence, right-footed and dependable, and was eventually handed the captain's armband.

He was part of the squad that secured promotion to the Eredivisie in 2023. Since then he has become one of the more enduring figures at the club, passing the 100-appearance mark and scoring five goals along the way. In June 2025 he committed his future to Almere City with a two-year contract extension, running until 2027.

That same year brought a personal storyline alongside the professional one: his brother, Jamie Jacobs, also a professional footballer, joined him at Almere City, reuniting the pair after they had come through the AZ youth system together.

Jacobs represented the Netherlands at various youth levels, from the under-15s through to the under-20s, including a goal for the under-18 side, though he has not featured for the senior national team.
