About the player
Charlie McNeill is a forward who has been on the books of both Manchester clubs. He started out at Liverpool, which he left in 2011, and joined Manchester United's academy that year. Three years later he moved across the city to Manchester City, where he stayed until 2020. The switch between the two clubs that year was reported to carry a fee of £750,000.
His England record comes from that youth period. He played four times for the Under-16s in 2019 and scored once.
He made his senior debut for Manchester United in 2022. Newport County took him in January 2023 for the rest of the 2022–23 season. In September 2023 he joined Stevenage, and he stayed until United recalled him in January 2024.
His time at Old Trafford ended in June 2024, when he left by mutual consent. Sheffield Wednesday signed him on a free transfer the following month. He is right-footed and the club gave him the number 17 shirt.
Loan spells have been part of his route so far, and the latest is the 2026–27 season at Crewe Alexandra, which he joined in August 2026.
