About the player
Cheik Omar Konaté made his professional debut for Clermont Foot 63 in February 2023, against Stade Rennais. He signed his first professional contract with the French club in October 2022 and went on to feature for the reserves in National 3 alongside his first-team involvement. His first senior goal came in September 2023, against Le Havre. Across his time at Clermont, spread over Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, he made 60 league appearances and scored once.
In January 2026, with his contract at Clermont set to run out, Konaté moved on loan to A.E. Kifisia in the Greek Super League, where he made 16 appearances before leaving the French club on a permanent basis. In September 2026 he signed a two-year contract, with the option of a third, at SK Beveren in the Belgian Pro League.
A right-footed defender who can play at right-back or centre-back, Konaté has also broken into the Mali national team, debuting in November 2024. He had earned caps in both Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers as of early 2025, with further appearances in 2026 World Cup qualifying reported later in his career.
