About the player
The goal that put Frédéric Maciel in the Portuguese League Cup story came in the second round of the 2016–17 Taça da Liga. He scored the winner against Estoril, and it took Moreirense into the final tournament.
He came to Moreirense from a long apprenticeship. After Padroense he joined Porto in 2010 and stayed until 2015.
Later stops were Gil Vicente, Varzim and Lusitânia Lourosa. At Torreense in 2021–22 he won Liga 3 (the Campeonato de Portugal).
In 2023 he left Portugal for Romania, joining Oțelul Galați on a free transfer. In 2023–24 he scored five goals in 32 Liga I matches, and Oțelul reached the Cupa României final, where they finished runners-up.
In the summer of 2025 he signed for CSKA 1948 in Sofia, again on a free transfer. His first Bulgarian season brought 31 appearances and one goal. The start of 2026/27 has been more productive: five goals in nine league games, plus two in four UEFA Conference League matches. CSKA lost 1–2 to Panathinaikos in the qualifiers.
