About the player
Giorgi Abuashvili grew up in the Dinamo Tbilisi academy and made his senior debut for the club in June 2019, going on to win the Erovnuli Liga twice and the Georgian Super Cup before FC Porto paid a reported €240,000 for him in July 2021. He never featured for Porto's first team, restricted to five Segunda Liga appearances for the reserve side. A switch to Petrolul Ploiești in August 2023 brought only three league and two cup appearances before his contract there was cancelled by mutual agreement the following February.
Across the 2024–25 season he scored 18 league goals and set up four more, form that earned him a place in the Erovnuli Liga Team of the Year and the Player of the Month award for August 2024. That run persuaded FC Metz to take him on loan in July 2025, and he repaid the move with 23 Ligue 1 appearances and two goals, one of them in a 2-1 win over Guingamp, though the club was relegated to Ligue 2 at the season's end.
Abuashvili has represented Georgia at U17, U19 and U21 level, and was involved in the country's run to the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, converting a penalty in the shootout win over Croatia in the playoffs and scoring in the group stage against France at the finals. His senior debut came in November 2025 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, playing in defeats to Spain and Bulgaria.
