Gianluca Cristiano Busio

Gianluca Busio signed with Sporting Kansas City as a homegrown player in August 2017, becoming the youngest player to sign with an MLS club since Freddy Adu. He made his professional debut the following year with Sporting Kansas City II in the USL Championship, appearing 16 times and scoring once between 2018 and 2020, before establishing himself with the first team, where he made 65 league appearances and scored eight goals through 2021.

In August 2021, Busio moved to Venezia FC in Italy for a reported base fee of $6.5 million, with potential add-ons pushing the total to as much as $11 million — a club-record transfer for Venezia. He has gone on to captain the side. After featuring in Serie A during the 2024–25 season, Busio played in Serie B the following campaign, making 37 league appearances and scoring seven goals as the club won the title and returned to Serie A with a 2–0 win over Palermo.

Busio has represented the United States at senior level since making his debut against Haiti at the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup, a tournament the Americans went on to win. He scored his first senior international goal against Trinidad and Tobago at the 2023 Gold Cup and has earned 17 caps overall. He was also part of the United States squad at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Before breaking into the senior side, he came through the American youth ranks, including a spell with the under-17s at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
