About the player
Lee's move to Arouca: the €1.5 million fee for the South Korean midfielder made him the most expensive signing in the club's history. He arrived in July 2025 on a three-year contract.
Lee started out in the Pohang Steelers academy in South Korea, attending Pohang Jecheol Middle and High School, but left in January 2022 without making a senior appearance for the club. Bayern Munich took him on loan before making the move permanent that August, and he spent several seasons with Bayern Munich II in the Regionalliga Bayern. Game time came instead through loan spells: 28 league appearances and four goals for SV Wehen Wiesbaden in 2023–24, followed by 24 appearances and three goals for Hannover 96 the following season. Neither loan club exercised an option to sign him permanently, and he returned to Bayern before agreeing to join Arouca.
Internationally, Lee progressed through South Korea's youth ranks, captaining the under-17 side and later earning a place in the under-23 squad selected for the 2024 Paris Olympics. His senior international career began on 14 November 2024, when he came on as a substitute in the 81st minute of a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Kuwait.
