About the player
Eom Ji-sung was central to Gwangju FC's 2022 season in the K League 2. The club won the title and promotion to the K League 1, and Eom took the league's Young Player of the Year award and a place in the Best XI.
His route to that season ran entirely through Gwangju's own system. He played for Iri Dongsan Elementary School, Jungni Middle School and Gochangbuk Middle School, then joined the Gwangju academy in 2018 and studied at the affiliated Kumho High School. He graduated in 2021, the year he made his senior debut, so his breakthrough came within a season of leaving school.
National-team recognition followed quickly. In a friendly against Iceland on 15 January 2022, South Korea won 5–1 and Eom scored his first senior international goal. He later won the WAFF U-23 Championship in 2024, and he has been named in South Korea's squad for the 2026 World Cup.
On 15 July 2024 he left Gwangju for Swansea City of the English Championship, signing a four-year contract that runs to 30 June 2028. The fee was not disclosed, though it was widely reported at around £1 million.
His first goal for Swansea came on 8 March 2025, against Middlesbrough.
