About the player
Ilija Babić was born in Novi Sad. While he never featured for the senior side during his time on the books there, he did pick up a Serbian U19 Championship medal with the club's junior side.
His path to first-team football ran through a string of loans instead. Spells at RFK Grafičar and FK Mladost Novi Sad gave him regular football away from Red Star, before a single appearance on loan at FK Voždovac in 2023 preceded a permanent move to FK Spartak Subotica. Across the 2024/25 season he made 36 appearances and scored three goals, form that earned him the Player of the Week award for Round 26 of the Serbian SuperLiga.
Babić built his reputation at Subotica before his move to FK Radnički 1923, where he now wears the number 11 shirt. A Serbian international at underage level, his career so far has been defined less by his time at one of the country's grandest clubs than by the seasons he spent proving himself elsewhere on loan.
