About the player
Joël van der Wilt came up through SV Argon before joining FC Volendam's youth academy in 2017, where he spent four years developing before stepping up to Jong FC Volendam. When that reserve side was dissolved, he moved on to Jong Almere City FC, playing in the Tweede Divisie. In August 2023 he trained with Almere City's first team and made his senior debut for the club that month.
The breakthrough came the following summer. In July 2024, at the age of 20, van der Wilt signed his first professional contract with Almere City, tying him to the club until June 2026 with an option for a further year. It marked the formal end of a long apprenticeship through the club's youth ranks and reserve football, and gave him a place in the first-team squad as a senior professional.
